Prenuptial Agreements

Prenuptial Agreements

A prenuptial agreement, antenuptial agreement, or premarital agreement (commonly called" prenup") is a contract made prior to a marriage or  civil union.  The content of a prenuptial agreement can vary widely, but commonly includes provisions for division of property and spousal support in the event of divorce or breakup of a marriage. They may also include terms for the forfeiture of assets as a result of divorce on the grounds of adultery. Further conditions of guardianship may be included as well.

Like them or not, they are becoming more popular and more necessary in protecting the interests of both parties. If not done properly, prenups can be challenged and even overturned. Do it right the first time! Call us at 647-427-8776 or 905-918-3499..

Prenuptial agreements can be a sensitive topic but are essential to the protection of your financial interests. We have seen a rapid increase in the use of prenuptial agreements in the last decade. This tool is especially useful for couples who enter the relationship with unequal financial assets and liabilities.

Although no one likes to consider the possibility of the dissolution of their marriage, the reality is that over 30% of marriages now end in divorce. Arguments over finances can make an already painful divorce even more stressful. Having a comprehensively drafted prenuptial agreement benefits both parties.
